Verizon Pulls Plug on $2 Bill-Pay Fee | Fox Business

Shock and awe.  Verizon announces it's going to start charging a fee, there is wailing and gnashing of teeth, and now they have decided not to charge the fee.

Verizon Wireless has decided to scrap the $2 fee it planned to institute for online and telephone single payments less than 24 hours after a wave of backlash and criticism hit the mobile carrier.

Have no fear.  Verizon will recoup this fee somewhere, somehow; and it's customers will pay for it.

Parents, have you read your child's textbook lately? | The Tennessean | tennessean.com

One of the many benefits of homeschooling is not only knowing what's in your children's text books, but also choosing those textbooks.  Everything your children are taught will meet your approval.

There are two areas that should be a nationwide concern for parents due to the pressure of certain political organizations and activist groups. I will only discuss one in this article due to the length. After checking my child's homework one night, I found an entire chapter dedicated to Islam. I understand that the formation of religion is a part of history and therefore should be discussed briefly; however, the length and depth of material are completely inappropriate. In the Holt World History book, the Islamic World chapter covers the roots of Islam, Islamic beliefs and practices, Islamic empires and cultural achievements. (14 pages of Islam compared to three pages of Christianity). Christianity was covered in one section under the Roman empire chapter. Furthermore, the chapter of Islam was whitewashed from clearly explaining the aspects of Sharia Law, the treatment and rights (or lack thereof) of women, and how Islam is "tolerant" (or not so much) toward other religions. The textbook glosses over the spread of Islam through bloodshed of non-Muslims and points out that trade "helped" non-Muslims convert (page 363). The post 9/11-issued book explains that jihad is "to make an effort, or to struggle." Only in the last sentence was jihad also translated as "holy wars." Although 96 percent of all social studies text books have been revised since that horrifying historic event, one-third of the textbooks make no mention of 9/11 according to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. Another disturbing discovery, the textbook refers to Allah as God several times. As a Christian, I find the interchanging of "Allah" and "God's" name offensive. Any studied Christian or Muslim would attest that the two religions believe in two different beings as God. Why, then, are the two different beliefs of God being presented as one?

Twitter Continues To Evade Explaining Its Breaking of U.S. Law and Its Indirect Support For Online Jihad: The Case of Hizbullah and Al-Manar TV

Introduction

As part of its research, the MEMRI Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor follows the multiple ways in which jihadi groups are using Twitter – "tweeting" news flashes, reporting attacks, battles, and other operational activities, and sharing videos, and more.

Jihadi groups' use of Twitter is part of their online media strategy of taking advantage of Western websites and technologies,[1] uploading videos to YouTube[2] and to the Internet Archive,[3] creating official Facebook pages,[4] and other methods. Jihadis have come to depend on free web hosting, where content can be uploaded anonymously, reliably, and at no cost.

Headquartered in San Francisco, California and with servers in San Antonio, Texas, Boston, Massachusetts, and New York, Twitter is increasingly being used by terrorist organizations and their media outlets. Their online followers are growing in number.

Twitter's Terms of Services Supposedly Ban Users "Barred From Receiving Services Under the Laws of the United States" – Yet Growing Number of Designated Terrorist Organizations Are Tweeting

The latest designated terrorist organization active on twitter is Hizbullah (http://twitter.com/#1/almanarnews). Other jihadi organizations include the Somali Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab Al-Mujahedeen,[5] the Taliban,[6] Jihad Al-Ansar Media,[7] Nukhbat Al-I'lam Al-Jihadi,[8] Ribat Media Center,[9] and many more, on which MEMRI will be reporting soon.

According to Twitter's Terms of Service, account holders may use the Services only if "you [the user] can form a binding contract with Twitter and are not a person barred from receiving services under the laws of the United States or other applicable jurisdiction." [10] Its "Restrictions on Content" states "We reserve the right at all times (but will not have an obligation) to remove or refuse to distribute any Content on the Services and to terminate users or reclaim usernames... We also reserve the right to... enforce the Terms, including investigation of potential violations hereof."[11] Twitter also provides readers with the option to report violations.

Jihadis' use of Twitter should not be dismissed. The terrorist organizations mentioned above, and an ever-growing cadre of online jihadi groups and bloggers supportive of Al-Qaeda, are tweeting 24/7. In fact, according to recent research on Twitter users, Arabic is now the fastest-growing language on the site; the number of Arabic-language tweets is 22 times greater than it was a year ago.[12]

Women should not drive, get close to cucumbers, or show their face

First, we're told that women should not be allowed to drive because it makes them loose.  I always thought it was the "parking" (not the driving) that was the problem.

Repealing a ban on women drivers in Saudi Arabia would result in 'no more virgins', the country's religious council has warned.

A 'scientific' report claims relaxing the ban would also see more Saudis - both men and women - turn to homosexuality and pornography.

The startling conclusions were drawn by Muslim scholars at the Majlis al-Ifta' al-A'ala, Saudi Arabia's highest religious council, working in conjunction with Kamal Subhi, a former professor at the King Fahd University.

The report warns that allowing women to drive would 'provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce'.

Within ten years of the ban being lifted, the report's authors claim, there would be 'no more virgins' in the Islamic kingdom.

And it pointed out 'moral decline' could already be seen in other Muslim countries where women are allowed to drive.

Next we're told that Muslim women need to stay away from certain fruits and vegetables to avoid having sexual thoughts:

An Islamic cleric living in Europe reportedly has warned Muslim women not to get too close to bananas, cucumbers or other produce -- to avoid having "sexual thoughts."

[...]

if women wanted to eat these foods, a third party -- preferably a male related to them, such as their father or husband -- should cut the items into small pieces before serving,

Next we're told that women  must wear a veil because their face is like a vagina!

Famous Salafi preacher Sheikh Abu Ishaq al-Huwainia likened the face of a woman to her vagina during a talk in front of a group of people on the necessity for women to wear the niqab [veil]. The sheikh's words provoked anger among women and Muslims in Egypt, even as his supporters defended him...

Perverts, perverts, perverts.

The Tree is Up

PIC00509

We got the tree up today and it only took four trips to the store!

  • One to get the tree.
  • Two to get new lights
  • Three to get more lights.
  • And four to get a new topper, hooks, and skirt.

That's how it is when everything you have is old and falling apart,  Anyway, we're glad to get it done and Cinderella is having a ball!

I also took some photos of some of our ornaments.  I forgot what it was like dragging all the old stuff out and the memories it brings back.

We had a whole set of these when I was a kid.  Some of them were bells, some of them were balls.  Some of them had glitter on them.  They're all glass, and there are only a few left now.  Dad was always there supervising when we put the tree up.  He loved it when we were together, cooperating, and doing things together.

85-year-old woman may sue TSA after being strip searched t JFK Airport - NY Daily Newsa

This, America, is what we've come to.  In an effort to be "fair" and to be anti-discriminatory, we are strip-searching little old ladies that want to get on an airplane.  Doesn't that make you feel safer?

An 85-year-old Long Island grandmother says she plans to sue the TSA after a humiliating strip search on Tuesday by agents at JFK Airport.

Lenore Zimmerman, who lives in Long Beach, says she was on her way to a 1 p.m. flight to Fort Lauderdale when security whisked her to a private room and took off her clothes.

"I walk with a walker — I really look like a terrorist," she said sarcastically. "I'm tiny. I weigh 110 pounds, 107 without clothes, and I was strip-searched."

Florida teen detained by TSA for design on her purse | The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

Vanessa Gibbs holds her infamous "purse gun"

It's not unusual for 17-year-old to find themselves in hot water with the fashion police. But on a flight from Virginia to Florida, Vanessa Gibbs found herself detained by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) over the appearance of her purse.

And just to be clear, it wasn't the content inside the purse that the TSA objected to. No, agency officials took exception with the design of a gun on Gibbs' handbag.

"It's my style, it's camouflage, it has an old western gun on it," Gibbs told News4Jax.com. Gibbs didn't run into any trouble while traveling north from Jacksonville International Airport. But on her way back home, TSA officials at Norfolk International Airport pulled her aside.

"She was like, 'This is a federal offense because it's in the shape of a gun,'" Gibbs said. "I'm like, 'But it's a design on a purse. How is it a federal offense?'"

After TSA agents figured out the gun was a fake, Gibbs said, they told her to check the bag or turn it over. By the time security wrapped up the inspection, the pregnant teen missed her flight, and Southwest Airlines sent her to Orlando instead. The changed itinerary created no small amount of anxiety for Gibbs' mother, who was already waiting for her to arrive at the Jacksonville airport.

"Oh, it's terrifying. I was so upset," said Tami Gibbs, the teen's mom. "I was on the phone all the way to Orlando trying to figure out what was going on with her. It was terrifying."

Our Trash Africa’s Treasure

English: Optics and scalpels

Image via Wikipedia

When I first read this story, I thought, "Gee, we are a wasteful nation."

Doctors will often prepare for surgical procedures by opening instrument and supply kits that contain up to 100 items.

Many of these items, such as scalpels, needles or sponges, go unused; they're just not needed for that particular procedure. But because of government or hospital regulations in the United States, they are frequently thrown away, even when they are still wrapped.

"There are thousands of tons of medical supplies thrown away every day that are unused or clearly reusable," said Dr. Bruce Charash, a cardiologist in New York.

Fortunately, some nonprofit organizations, including Charash's Doc2Dock group, are finding ways to salvage these items and get them to people who need them desperately around the world.

And I continued to read:

Sometimes, perfectly good equipment is thrown away.

"Why would (hospitals) throw out a working sonogram machine or a working hospital bed?" Charash said. "One, it's not pretty enough. Secondly, there might be new technology available. In general, no one wants to use a 2005 (model) if a 2012 is available."

Occasionally, a hospital will simply switch brands and get rid of an entire line of unused items.

As I continued to read the article I was in awe and wowed at how fortunate we are.  We are a prosperous nation.  So much so, that we can switch brands or choose to use a new model and simply throw the old "stuff" away.  We are so prosperous, that other nations hunger for our trash.  I'm sure they are glad to be get what they do.  Oh, how sweet it is and how fortunate we are to be the giver.

“I’m Not Homeschooled Yet”

Painting: Cinderella at the Kitchen Fire, by T...

Image via Wikipedia

Cinderella and I went to the hospital today to visit a friend.  She insisted on taking her backpack which contained one thing:  her sippy cup.

When we left, we were on the elevator with another man.  He looked at Cinderella and said, "Did you go to school today?  You have your backpack on."

Cinderella replied with complete confidence, "No, I'm only 3.  I'm not homeschooled yet."

Let us Exalt His Name Together

Scroll of the Psalms

Image via Wikipedia

My you all have a blessed Thanksgiving Day.  We are often quick to whine and complain, but as Americans, we live in the most prosperous country in the world.  If I am to be poor anywhere, I pray that it be in the great USA.

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD; The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together. - Psalm 34:1-3 NASB

Following is a reminder of how great God is, how blessed we are, and how thankful we should be.

Psalm 65:

[1] For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song. There will be silence before You, and praise in Zion, O God, And to You the vow will be performed.

[2] O You who hear prayer, To You all men come.

[3] Iniquities prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You forgive them.

[4] How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You To dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

[5] By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea;

[6] Who establishes the mountains by His strength, Being girded with might;

[7] Who stills the roaring of the seas, The roaring of their waves, And the tumult of the peoples.

[8] They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.

[9] You visit the earth and cause it to overflow; You greatly enrich it; The stream of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth.

[10] You water its furrows abundantly, You settle its ridges, You soften it with showers, You bless its growth.

[11] You have crowned the year with Your bounty, And Your paths drip with fatness.

[12] The pastures of the wilderness drip, And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing.

[13] The meadows are clothed with flocks And the valleys are covered with grain; They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

Also for your reading pleasure, a Thanksgiving story from about 1850.  (Grab a tissue.)  This is a great story for children and another reminder of how fortunate we are and how God provides our every need.
