Obama campaign arm focuses on talk radio - Ben Smith - POLITICO.com

File this under "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."  The democrats can't get conservative talk radio shut down, so they're going to try to join it!

The Democratic National Committee's Organizing for America has quietly launched an initiative aimed at making Obama supporters' voices heard on the largely conservative airwaves.

"The fate of health reform has been a focus of debate in living rooms and offices, on TV and online — and on talk radio. And since millions of folks turn to talk radio as a trusted source of news and opinions, we need to make sure OFA supporters are calling in with a pro-reform message," says the introduction to the online tool.

The online tool presents users with a radio show discussing political topics, to which supporters can listen live, and the phone number for that station, for when health care comes up. It also offers tips for callers and talking points on the issue.

Prepeat Rewritable Printer

Here's a printer Hillary would be proud of!  The Prepeat uses no ink or toner.  It uses special paper made of PET plastic so that the paper can be re-written.  Each sheet of paper can be used about 1,000 times!

No more firing up the paper shredder the next time those sensitive documents are subpoenaed! Fire up the printer instead.

Three Major Firms Pull Out of Climate Change Alliance

ConocoPhillips, BP America and Caterpillar pulled out of a leading alliance of businesses and environmental groups pushing for climate change legislation on Tuesday, citing complaints that the bills under consideration are unfair to American industry.

The sudden pullout of three corporate giants from a leading alliance of businesses and environmental groups could be the death knell for climate change legislation languishing on Capitol Hill.

Both BP America and Caterpillar were founding members of the group.

School Uses Laptop Webcams to Spy on Students

We've all  heard of school districts handing out laptop computers as study aids for their students.  Assuming that the computers remain property of the school, it is common sense to think that the school has the right to confiscate the laptops or search their hard drives at any time.

Many laptops these days come with built in webcams.  Does the school have the right to activate the webcam anytime it wants to see what students are doing in their own home?  Looks like we will soon find out.

A Lower Merion family has set off a furor among students, parents, and civil liberties groups by alleging that Harriton High School officials used a webcam on a school-issued laptop to spy on their 15-year-old son at home.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court, the family said the school's assistant principal had confronted their son, told him he had "engaged in improper behavior in [his] home, and cited as evidence a photograph from the webcam embedded in [his] personal laptop issued by the school district."

The suit contends the Lower Merion School District, one of the most prosperous and highest-achieving in the state, had the ability to turn on students' webcams and illegally invade their privacy.

. . .

The suit says that in November, assistant principal Lynn Matsko called in sophomore Blake Robbins and told him that he had "engaged in improper behavior in his home," and cited as evidence a photograph from the webcam in his school-issued laptop.

Matsko later told Robbins' father, Michael, that the district "could remotely activate the webcam contained in a student's personal laptop . . . at any time it chose and to view and capture whatever images were in front of the webcam" without the knowledge or approval of the laptop's users, the suit says.

. . .

Widener University law professor Stephen Henderson said using a laptop camera for home surveillance would violate wiretap laws, even if done to catch a thief.

KCMO 13th Most Miserable City

High taxes and crime rates hurt Kansas City's standing, but what moved them up our misery list were its two awful pro sports teams. The Royals and Chiefs combined finished outside of last place only once in the past three years.

Fake Pills at School

Be sure to click through to the video.  It's unbelievable that teachers would put mints in prescription pill bottles and tell students to take them when they get nervous over a test.  Let's just teach kids that the cure for everything is a pill, why don't we?

On top of that, the pill bottles were child proof.  All of the children have been taught how to open child-proof containers.

The school says that the teachers will not be disciplined.

Global Warming Scam Alive and Well in the Church

LONDON -- Several prominent Anglican British bishops are urging Christians to keep their carbon consumption in check this Lent.

The 40-day period of penitence before Easter typically sees observant Catholics, Anglicans, and Orthodox Christians give up meat, alcohol or chocolates.

But this year's initiative aims to convince those observing Lent to try a day without an iPod or mobile phone in a bid to reduce the use of electricity – and thus trim the amount of carbon dioxide spewed into the atmosphere.

Bishop of London Rev. Richard Chartres said that the poorest people in developing countries were the hardest hit by man-made climate change.

He said Tuesday that the "Carbon Fast" was "an opportunity to demonstrate the love of God in a practical way."

Breastfeeding Toddlers

While I will agree that it is not for every mom, there should also be no rush to wean based on someone else's pre-determined schedule.

Do what feels right to you. Each mom is different and each child is different…and only the two of you really know when it is best to stop.

Planned Parenthood's Survival Depends on You

"It is very clear that the only abortion group expanding its business is Planned Parenthood, and the only reason it can do so is with the help of our tax dollars," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

. . .

"This news emphasizes the need to defund Planned Parenthood nationwide. Without being artificially supported with our tax dollars, Planned Parenthood would be closing clinics, not building new ones," said Newman.

. . .

While recent pro-life efforts have at least temporarily blocked tax-funded abortions in our health care system, Planned Parenthood alone receives over $336.7 million dollars each year of our Federal tax money through other programs. And that figure does not count funding its affiliates receive from the states.

Baby dies of meningitis 'because doctors were too busy to help'

This is truly a tragic story from the UK.  You might argue that had the baby seen a doctor right away the outcome would've been the same.  I'm appalled to think that medical personnel have hardened their hearts so much to turn away a dying baby.  I guess it goes with the territory (socialized medicine).

A couple whose baby was dying of meningitis were forced to dial 999 for an ambulance from outside their GP surgery - after being told doctors were too busy to see him.

Lee Freeman and Shaunna Bent sprinted more than a mile to their local GP surgery with five-month-old Jaydon in their arms after he was struck down with classic meningitis symptoms.

But when they arrived, a receptionist told them no doctor was available and they could leave their number so someone could call them back.

Convinced that Jaydon was seriously ill, the couple went outside to call 999 and an ambulance arrived within minutes.

A patient in the waiting room was also alarmed and after seeing the critically-ill baby, ran back inside to grab a doctor.

Only then were the couple taken inside the surgery and into a consulting room to see if they were alright.

Little Jaydon was taken to hospital in an ambulance but kept slipping in and out of consciousness and died a few hours later from meningococcal septicaemia.

His parents are furious and want to know why there was no doctor available to see their dying son.

Why monopolies are bad, and why school choice makes sense

Be sure to click through to Hot Air and watch the video.  It's great.

Besides, any government monopoly that 44% of the Senate and 36% of the House avoid is one that should be either ended or forced to compete on a more even basis with private-sector suppliers.

Kansas Senate Affirms Sovereignty Under the 10th Amendment

For the Kansans out there . . .

"the State of Kansas hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States"

SCR1615 is a non-binding resolution, and does not carry the force of law. Its intention is to act as a statement of the legislature of the state.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 1615 (SCR1615) was authored by Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook, and was originally introduced in May, 2009. It passed by a vote of 33-7 and will be transmitted to the House.
