Taiwan official pleads guilty, faces deportation - KCTV 5

The U.S. Attorney's Office said an envoy for the government of Taiwan pleaded guilty this morning to allegations that she abused her house help.

Hsien Hsein "Jacqueline" Liu will pay $80,044 in restitution, receive probation and will be deported immediately after a sentencing hearing. She remains in federal custody until then. A judge will need to finalize the deal but that is considered a formality and Liu should be deported by the end of the year.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Liu fraudulently obtained two Filipino servants for her home. The amount represents the pay the victims should have received for working up to 18 hours a day for nearly seven days a week.

The 64-year-old Liu lived in Overland Park, but worked in Kansas City for the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office. The office helps maintain close relations between the people of the United States and Taiwan.
