Vanderbilt Catholic Leaving Vanderbilt University

Kudos to Vanderbilt Catholic for taking a stand and not giving in:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Next year, Vanderbilt Catholic is refusing to register as a student organization. It's the first group severing ties after the University made changes to its controversial non-discrimination policy.

"I don't think God ever closes one door that he doesn't open up a window," Vanderbilt Catholic's Chaplain John Sims Baker said.

After hours of discussion and prayer members of the religious organization is severing it's official affiliation with the University.

"What it comes down to is we do in fact have these qualifications for leadership based on faith," PJ Jedlovec, Vanderbilt Catholic President said.

At issue, the University's newly adopted non-discrimination policy that requires student organizations to open membership and leadership positions to all students whether they share the beliefs of the group or not.

"Just a matter of good conscience we couldn't see how we could not be candid and forthright about what we really do expect our organization to be, including our leadership," Fr. Baker added.
