We've had an electronic filter on our furnace for a number of years. We've enjoyed it. It works a lot better than the throw away filters that you buy. It's been great for us allergy sufferers, and it really keeps the dust down. The only drawback is that you have to wash it occasionally.
It has quit working, and we have two options. We can replace it for the sum of $500, or we can try a 4" filter that will fit in the place of our electronic filter. It would last for about six months and then we would have to buy another one. It would cost about $50 a year to buy the 4" filters. It would take 10 years to equal the price of the electronic filter.
So, I'm wondering what other people use. Do you use the 4" filters? Do you like them? Why or why not? What is your opinion on electronic filters?
